Summer Reading

  How does Summer Reading work?

  • Sign up for Summer Reading here using the ReadSquared app. You may also keep track on paper if you’d like. 

  • Log every 20 minutes you spend reading.

  • Stop in to the library for a prize when you reach 120 minutes.Pick up a prize from the prize box on Monday mornings at the library. You can also save your logs and pick up your prizes at the end of the summer. 

  • New this summer. Each week, anyone who has signed up online and tracks their books using ReadSquared will be entered to win a $10 amazon gift card.

Summer Programs

Butterfly Tales! 

This year the library has planted some special butterfly bushes outside, and we will be growing our own butterflies! Stop by to check on them, help feed them, observe them and then release them to our new butterfly garden! We will also post their progress on facebook weekly. 

Kick Off Stuffed Animal Sleepover!-- Monday, 6/21- Wednesday, 6/23

Drop off your animal friends between 10-2pm on Monday for a 2 night sleepover at the Library. Then, pick them up on Wednesday, 6/23 at 3pm. Meet us outside for a fun story, photo booth to snap a photo with your animal friends,  and take home a little craft to do at home. Masks required. Story time and program will be outside, weather permitting. If it rains, we will post the story time online and you can stop in to snap a photo, grab your craft, and watch stories at home. 
 

Tales at the Park!-Monday, 6/21 11am Friday,  6/25 1 pm Fairytales

Join us for this weekly story time geared towards preschoolers. We will meet at Veteran’s Park in Stratford (Grand Ave & Vassar Ave) program will feature some stories, songs,  a take home craft, a snack idea (no actual food served) and an early literacy skill. Get in some learning and stay for some playground fun after. 

Tales at the Park!-Monday, 6/28 11am NO STORY TIME 7/2

Join us for this weekly story time geared towards preschoolers. We will meet at Veteran’s Park in Stratford (Grand Ave & Vassar Ave) program will feature some stories, songs,  a take home craft, a snack idea (no actual food served) and an early literacy skill. Get in some learning and stay for some playground fun after. 

A Tale with Tails- Mad Libs- Monday, 6/28 between 10-2pm

Stop by the library and fill out our animal themed mad libs (a silly fill in the blank template) story and Ms. Sara will read them on facebook live Monday night at 7pm. 

Little Red Riding Hood CSI- Wednesday 6/30 between 2-6pm

Stop by the library between 2-6pm to solve the mystery of WHO ATE GRANNY? Follow the clues, solve the puzzles, and you might be surprised by this answer. This is a passive program, so children can do it at their own pace. Masks required for entering the library. Best for ages 4 and up. 

No Tales at the Park on Monday, 7/5

Animal Yoga -Wednesday 7/7 between 2-6pm (This is a virtual program)

Join us on our facebook page and youtube for an animal yoga session. 

Tales at the Playground!- Friday,  7/9 1 pm Beastly Beasts!

Join us for this weekly story time geared towards preschoolers. We will meet at Veteran’s Park in Stratford (Grand Ave & Vassar Ave) program will feature some stories, songs,  a take home craft, a snack idea (no actual food served) and an early literacy skill. Get in some learning and stay for some playground fun after. 

Butterfly Release Wednesday, 7/14 4pm. 

Join us to let our butterflies go free and then stay outside and hear some stories about butterflies in our new butterfly garden area. 

 

Tales at the Playground!- Monday, 7/12 and Friday,  7/16 1 pm Cool and Crawly Creatures

Join us for this weekly story time geared towards preschoolers. We will meet at Veteran’s Park in Stratford (Grand Ave & Vassar Ave) program will feature some stories, songs,  a take home craft, a snack idea (no actual food served) and an early literacy skill. Get in some learning and stay for some playground fun after. 

 

Animal Heroes Scavenger Hunt- Wednesday, 7/21 between 2 and 6pm.

Stop in to the library to complete an animal hero scavenger hunt. If you complete the scavenger hunt, you can take home a delicious animal treat to enjoy! This is a family friendly self-directed program, and families are encouraged to stop in and complete the scavenger hunt and take their snack prize to go. 

 

Tales at the Playground!- Monday, 7/19 and Friday,  7/23 1 pm Ocean Tales

Join us for this weekly story time geared towards preschoolers. We will meet at Veteran’s Park in Stratford (Grand Ave & Vassar Ave) program will feature some stories, songs,  a take home craft, a snack idea (no actual food served) and an early literacy skill. Get in some learning and stay for some playground fun after. 

 

Take and Make Craft Week- No Tales at the Playground 7/26-7/30

Stop in and grab a kit to make a clay animal magnet at home. Craft kits available all week during the Library’s open hours.

 

Goodbye Summer Prize Pick Up- Monday, 8/2-Friday 8/6

Stop by during our library open hours (please check website for accurate information) to pick up your final prizes for the summer.

Summer StoryWalk- Friday, 8/6 through Monday, 9/3

What's a story walk? It's an outside story time adventure for your whole family. You will start in the library parking lot and follow the instructions to walk through the story of There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Wave by Lucille Colandro. There will be activities along the way. Get out of the house and have some fun!
